1. What are wetlands? An area characterized by a high content of soil moisture

2. Why are wetlands important? Wetlands prevent flooding by holding water much like a sponge. By doing so, wetlands help keep river levels normal and filter and purify the surface water.


3. What animals and plants are found in the wetlands?
frogs and salamanders snakes, turtles, and alligators.

What are some things that middle school students can do to help protect wetland areas? go to a wetland and clean up the trash on the ground and maybe plant some plants or weeds.
